"Tempranillo 90% and Cabernet Sauvignon 10%, organic: 6 months in American oak. Smooth, flavorful, and versatile."
Description
Quaderna Via Especial is the most versatile and adaptable wine from Bodegas y Viñedos Quaderna Via, the pioneering organic winery in Navarra founded in 1998 by brothers Raúl and Jorge Ripa in Igúzquiza (Tierra Estella), right on the Camino de Santiago. Quaderna Via was one of the first wineries in Spain and Europe to exclusively focus on organic wine, cultivating the vineyard like their grandparents, without herbicides or pesticides, and producing with the most modern technology to give the wine all the respect it deserves. The Especial is a semi-aged wine made with 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from organic vineyards surrounded by forests and shrubs that form a natural barrier. After manual harvesting, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, malolactic fermentation in concrete, and aging for 6 months in American oak barrels. 13.5% vol. The result is a red wine with a cherry red color and purple rim, bright and high-layered, with aromas of black fruit jam, a slight spicy touch, and a smooth background of toasted and smoky notes. On the palate, it is smooth, broad, flavorful, with tamed tannins and good acidity. Distinguished as the Best Wine of Navarra 2009 vintage in the XIX Quality Contest of the Navarra Wine Brotherhood.
