Prellenkirchen Samt & Seide is the Ortswein from Weingut Dorli Muhr, a winery founded in 2002 by Dorli Muhr in Prellenkirchen, in the Carnuntum region (Lower Austria), at the foot of the Spitzerberg, one of Austria's warmest and driest places due to its position in the corridor between the Alps and the Carpathians. Made with Blaufränkisch from twenty selected parcels in the Spitzer, Roterd, Panhölzer, Holzweingärten, and Kranzen vineyards, with vines aged between 15 and 35 years on pure limestone soils. The older vines contribute the silk and the younger ones the velvet that give the wine its name. Harvesting is done manually with berry-by-berry selection to remove any overripe fruit. In the winery, the grapes are gently crushed and partly fermented with stems in open vats, with spontaneous fermentation by wild yeasts at ambient temperature, without pumping over or temperature control. Some of the clusters are foot-trodden. After about twenty days, the wine is pressed and matured for approximately twenty months in 1,000 and 3,000-liter wooden barrels without new wood, to preserve the fruity expression of the Blaufränkisch. It is bottled unfiltered.
